Basically, I saw this ad in the classifieds offering 100 free adult movie titles (yes, porn!) for just R100. This seemed too good to be true, but I phoned up the company and they seemed legit. So I gave my credit card details and then waited. About 2 weeks later, I get a letter in the mail from this company. They’ve written a letter saying that unfortunately the stock didn’t come through so they’re giving me a full refund. Inside the envelope is a cheque for R100, so I think OK, at least they didn’t steal my money.
And then I look at the cheque. It is totally legit, made out to me, except that the name of the company, written in clear bold letters on the front of the cheque is “GAY ANAL FETISH cc”. Now what am I supposed to do with this cheque???
I can’t cash it – can you imagine the look on the bank teller’s face when he sees the name of the company and then wonders what the hell I’m doing with them. And if I leave it, then effectively they’ve stolen my cash!
Brilliant, but really irritating. I wonder how many other people they’ve scammed this way? Damn, I don’t know whether to laugh or get pissed off.
