| While out for a family meal recently, we were seated next to a couple with two young children. The set-up looked a little odd: the four of them sat in the middle of a table set for ten, but no-one else materialised. As the evening went on I heard them talking, and learned that they had been expecting other family members to attend, but the woman’s mother had decided to take them all to a different restaurant instead! I was shocked and the couple was clearly upset, but I was so impressed by how they handled it. They refused to bad-mouth their family in front of their children, instead just saying that the kids would see their grandmommy another time. They put a brave face on it and managed to have a nice meal with their own kids, instead of letting their inconsiderate family ruin the night. I was full of admiration for them.
